DIY: typography art

Last week I was informed to get a small gift for a dear friend, something that resembled her and what she meant to me.
I needed this by today!! so of course leaving it to the last minute,
but I had an idea in mind.
I went about typing up some words that I knew would mean something to my friend and words that resembled her strong Faith.

Hello...computer and a mixture of fonts and a few brilliant colours later I had the exact gift I had in mind completed ready to give.

Here is what I did:

type up the words and layout you want on the computer then cut around each
template leaving a bit of white so you can secure them in place on your picture frame
mounting board.
The words and font's you use is up to your artist mind,
so go for you life this is what I thought best suited my friend.

Finished product all framed up and ready to gift.
Something like this could be a simple, cheap and personal Christmas gift too.

I found this very easy to make the hardest bit was coming up with what to write, I love the end result and the colour I went with.

There is loads of Typography prints around so why not try making your own personal one I reckon.

Have a fun day.

cute pic's...

I love these cute pic's that have been sitting on Summah's bedside table waiting for me to hang them.
A simple job really that only takes a few minutes, this morning I've finally hung them.

left pic is made by Dee  (Tiny Eyes),
and on the right is from my Mum for Summah's birthday present.
Found at the Retro Fair in Hamilton.

Now I'm off to the Waikato Home Show with Summah, keeping her entertained with a broken arm.

Have a great day.

DIY: Art piece

I've been doing some artwork for my conservatory space and it's simple and if you want a cheats version of what I've done here is what you do.

What you need:

canvas 8x8
(or preferred size)
scissors
PVA glue
Paintbrush
Old school book
(that you don't mind cutting up)
printer
varnish

next cut 2 stripes for 2 sides with a bit of an overlap to glue it down nicely with watered down PVA glue....this part can be messy! Cut 'V' shapes out where you want to fold the extra at the corners for a nice finish.

Next do a google search for images you would like to print onto your book page, for the effect of an ink drawing you'll need to look for pictures that are sketched.

(some google image ideas: dandelion seed head, birds, flowers, building silhouettes, bridge silhouettes, powerlines with birds on them,  windmills etc)

(also you'll want black images to print off ... easier.)

For mine I've hand drawn them all with ink pen.

(your canvas will look like this if you have choosen to draw your own picture)

Then cover your canvas front with a full page from the book which covers the remaining 2 sides.  My book pages were about A4 size which was perfect for the 8x8 canvas.

The end result could look similar to these:

(excuse the poor quality photo's my husband has our good camera with him in the USA at the moment, I had to use the budget panasonic point and shoot camera)

a day for art...

The sun is shining outside but it is too cold to venture out, with the fire burning and baby girl sleeping I'm inspired to draw.
I do believe that you need to be in the right space to be inspired to draw/create and I'm feeling it at the moment.
I'm embracing the slower pace of life today and enjoying that I have nothing much planned, it's great I can go with the flow and chill.  Hence why the art work has been plucked from the depths of the creative cupboard and I'm drawing...yay!! Just a few other projects that I've started and not finished yet...I will have these ones ticked off some day soon.
The pieces I'm working on are for the conservatory make over so I want them finished so I can reveal the new conservatory look.

Here's a sneak peak at the art work.....

inspired by nature.

Have a great day everyone :)
